Although processed in June of 1967, peoples' dress suggests a cold day
which suggests that this ride took place earlier in the year. This was one
of the Modesto Roadmen's few dedicated training rides. I think we just went out
to a quiet country road and raced each other for short distances.
The gentleman in the front with the red hat is Bob Boranian, owner
of Bob's Cyclery. The green pickup behind him is his. Out of the goodness
of his heart, he is giving is a ride to the start of our training ride.
The first group, getting ready to start their sprint. I think we tried
to group people by speed to make the races more interesting. This group
of someone we have yet to identify, John Campopiano, Fred Brockman, and
someone else we have yet to identify.
The group from the previous picture, racing.
Gary Johnson and Eldon Rosenow, ready to race.
And here are Eldon and Gary racing.
Tom Woods leading out Jeff Cowdrey. There are others behind, cut off
at the right side of the picture.
This is the first group, from the second picture, racing again.
Gary and Eldon, racing.
Tom leading out Jeff again, but now you can see David Steffen at the
right edge of the picture.
The first group races again.
This looks to be the merger of two or more groups. From left to right
are Gary?, Tom , David. Jeff (in the lead), and Eldon.
The end of a sprint, everyone is catching their breath. Guessing a bit
here but ignoring the two riders in the far distance, I thing we have Tom,
David, Gary, and Jeff.
Fred coming in.
End of the day, left to right, Jeff, David (taking a drink), and Tom.
